COVID-19 Considerations
Hidden Savanna Farm, LLC Farm Education Policies and Procedures 2021-22
Hidden Savanna is not just a farm education program or kids enrichment activity, it is our home. The presence of COVID-19 in our community means that we are all tasked with being responsible to one another. We ask for active participation from families to ensure students and staff are exposed to the lowest possible risk of COVID-19 and are as safe as possible during 2020 Farm and Forest Enrichment Program.
These policies and procedures apply for 2021-22. All participants must acknowledge that they will adhere to these policies in their registration materials to ensure that all families agree to follow the same policies.
Pre-screening and monitoring:
Parents will be asked to watch this child for signs of fever. If a student has a temp over 100.4 F, they should remain home. If a student is taking any fever reducing medicine, they should remain home.
Symptom Check: If the student has any symptoms of COVID-19 (shortness of breath, flushed cheeks, difficulty breathing, cough), if they have experienced these in the last 72 hours, or if they have been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms of or diagnosed with COVID-19 they should remain home.
Symptoms are not limited to, but include:
Fever or chills *For the purpose of this guidance, fever is defined as subjective fever (feeling feverish) or a measured temperature of 100.4°F or higher with no fever reducing medication.
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
On site, staff will be alert for symptoms: • Staff will watch for fever, cough or shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19 • Staff will check temperature using a forehead thermometer if symptoms develop. If symptoms develop during the session a parent will be called to come pick up the child.
Hygiene and Social Distancing:
Program capacity is very limited. We usually have no more than 10 students per session. There will be two staff for each session. We are able to distance easily most of the time.
All program activities will take place outside in all weather. The only exception to this would be in the case of lightening when we will shelter in “the shack”,with all individuals wearing masks, maintaining 6 ft of spacing with the windows open and fans running.
The program’s activities will take place outdoors. We do not require children to wear masks outside; however, we support anyone who wishes to stay masked during the program.
Students and staff will wash hands frequently with soap and water and use hand sanitizer when unable to wash. All hand washing protocols outlined by the CDC will be followed, including: • Wash hands for at least 30 seconds with soap and water OR sanitize with a hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol content.
Communication:
We ask for full disclosure and continued communication from parents if there is a concern about potential COVID-19 exposure or symptoms and we will do the same.
If a student is experiencing symptoms (however mild) which may be COVID-19, we will call a parent immediately to pick up the student. Please be available via cell phone at all times.
If a student is suspected of, or confirmed to have COVID during your session, we will disclose this information to staff and other families immediately.
Appropriate Dress:
This program is entirely outdoors and dressing for and being prepared for the weather is an important part of your students ability to enjoy their experience at HSF. To that end, all students should wear appropriate footwear - closed-toed shoes and socks (no sandals or flip flops) and dress in comfortable clothes that can get dirty preferably with layers. Students should be prepared to remain outside in case of rain or in chilly conditions. Any desired sunscreen or bug repellant should be applied prior to coming for your session.
For winter sessions, we will strive to be active in the cold weather and so movement and comfort are important. We recommend waterproof insulated boots, wool socks, non-cotton baselayers (when children start to sweat cotton shirts stay wet and get children cold), snow pants, coat, waterproof winter gloves, and a hat.
Masks:
Students need to have a clean mask with them at all times during every session in case we need to be inside for any reason or if we find ourselves in close contact. HSF staff will have extra masks if needed.
Pick up and Drop Off:
If you are carpooling with trusted close contacts who are not members of your immediate family, for your safety and ours please remain masked at all times in the vehicle.
